Hey Jordan,
I hope this story helps somebody! When I first started homeschooling, I thought I had to do it just like school, early mornings, tight schedules, lessons starting by eight. My mom always said, “Kids need structure,” so that’s what I tried.
But every morning was a struggle. The kids were tired, cranky, and half-asleep at the table. I kept wondering why it felt so hard. Then one day, I just let them sleep. I sat with my coffee, waited, and when they woke up, everything felt lighter. They laughed through breakfast, and when we finally started lessons later, they were focused and happy.
That’s when I realized maybe structure doesn’t mean doing it like everyone else. Maybe it means finding what works for us.
Now we learn everywhere ,at the store, in the kitchen, on walks. Some days are messy, some are peaceful, but they’re ours. And the kids? They’re learning more than ever.
If you’re struggling to find your rhythm, don’t be hard on yourself. You’ll figure it out. Let your family’s flow guide you ,it doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s version of “school.”
With love,
Sarah
