Name It to Tame It: Feeling Vocabulary Sprint

November 7, 2025

Elementary SEL (Social Emotional Learning)

What Does “Name It to Tame It” Mean?

When we feel strong emotions—like anger, sadness, excitement, or worry—our brains can get a little stormy inside. But when we name the feeling (“I feel mad!” or “I feel nervous”), our brain starts to calm down. That’s called self-regulation—helping your feelings settle so you can think clearly again.

Think of it like this:
When you name it, you can tame it!
When you hide it, it can grow big inside!
