💛 Emotional and Wellness Activity: “Color & Calm Check-In”

“Show Your Colors, Feel Your Calm”

August 8, 2025

Good day before you do the lesson for today: Please see links listed below to add to the lesson:

Instructions:

  1. Draw a Peacock Spider on one side of the paper and a Sloth on the other.
  2. Around the peacock spider, write emotions you feel excited to express (e.g., happy, creative, brave).
  3. Around the sloth, write emotions you need to slow down and sit with (e.g., sad, stressed, tired).
  4. Choose one “expressive” emotion and one “mindful” emotion to explore deeper. Write or draw how that emotion feels inside your body.
  5. Take 2 minutes of quiet time to sit like a sloth—no talking, just breathing.

Goal: Learn to balance being expressive (like the peacock spider) with being mindful and calm (like the sloth).

🎭 Fun Emotional Scenarios: “Spider or Sloth?”

Read the situations below and decide if you’d rather respond like a Peacock Spider (Expressive) or a Sloth (Mindful). Then, act it out or journal your response!

Scenario 1:

Your team just won a big game at school!
🕷️ Do you jump up, cheer, and share your joy?
🦥 Or do you sit back and quietly soak in the moment?

Scenario 2:

Your friend said something that hurt your feelings.
🕷️ Do you speak up respectfully and express your feelings?
🦥 Or do you take time to reflect before responding?

Scenario 3:

You’re feeling anxious about a test tomorrow.
🕷️ Do you make a motivational poster and pump yourself up?
🦥 Or do you practice breathing and calming thoughts?

Scenario 4:

You got a surprise note saying, “You are awesome!”
🕷️ Do you smile, show the class, and say thank you loudly?
🦥 Or do you keep the note close and let it make your day better quietly?

🌈 CLOSING REFLECTION:

The peacock spider teaches us to be expressive and show who we are.
The sloth reminds us to slow down and be mindful of how we feel.

🗣️ Journal Prompt:
Write one way you’ll express your feelings this week (like the spider), and one way you’ll slow down and check in with yourself (like the sloth).
